Submission Guidelines
Welcome to the PLUTO Zine submission guidelines page. Here you will find details regarding how to apply for each position, either as a writer or an artist.
For All Applicants:
※ Please make sure any links to your work are publicly accessible! Can my application include NSFW pieces?
Yes! All mods are over 18 years of age. Please note however that the Zine itself is SFW only.
Do my submitted pieces need to feature PLUTO characters?
No, but they are encouraged if you have them!
Can I change my application after submitting?
Yes. After submitting, you will receive a confirmation email containing a copy of your application answers. If you need to make any changes, you can reply to this email up until the application deadline, Apr 3.
For Artists:
How should I submit my artwork?
Please provide links to 3-5 pieces that you feel demonstrate your work best.
We request links to individually selected artwork rather than entire portfolios, so that each applicant has a comparable sample size for the judging process. Something like a single link to a Google Drive folder with 3-5 works is also fine.

What type of artwork are you looking for?
If you are applying as a Page Artist or Spot Artist, we are looking for artwork with qualities suited to finished illustrations, such as composition, use of color, etc. For Page Artists especially, demonstrating the ability to draw backgrounds is highly encouraged.
If you are applying as a Comic Artist, please make sure at least one of your submitted pieces is in a comic format.

Working with Writers
If you are accepted into the Zine as a Spot Artist, you will pair with a writer to create a piece of art (or multiple pieces of art) to compliment their writing.
You and your writer can work together to come up with what best compliments their piece.

For Writers:
What format of writing is acceptable for my application?
Written submissions to the Zine can have plenty of variety; besides fanfictions, you could write letters between characters, news articles, interviews, scripts and more.
We require that at least one piece you submit in your application match the format that you intend to submit as your final piece. For example, if you want your submission to the Zine to be a script, then one of your sample pieces in this application should also be a script.
Also, please provide links to your work, do not copy/paste your entire written work into the form field.

Is there a word count / page count limit?
Final pieces accepted into the Zine will be within 3,000 words. As such we will be using the same word count for pieces submitted in your application.
You may submit up to 3 pieces to be reviewed for your application. Each piece, individually, should fall within 3,000 words in length.
We understand that writing can be difficult to constrain, so we will accept apps that go over this limit by a reasonable amount.
